What to Bring to the Consulate:

Application Process for the 'Número de Identidad de Extranjero' (Foreigner's Identity Number) in Spain
How to Apply:
1. You can apply for a NIE in Spain or at the Consular Office in your home country.
2. Apply in person or through someone you trust (a representative).
3. Either you or your representative must be physically present when applying.

Essential Information to Include and attach in Your NIE Application Email

Specify the reason for seeking the NIE number.

For proof, send an email to a Spanish property agent and attach the necessary documents. Print this email correspondence as it should serve as sufficient confirmation for your NIE application.

Attach a copy of your biographical page of your passport (PDF form)

Proof of your address (Utility bill or document showing your current address and your name written on it). Your address is needed as confirmation that you fall within the consulate's jurisdiction. You can verify if you're within the jurisdiction by visiting the previous page.

If you're under 18 or need a guardian: Family record, birth certificate, or guardianship document. Parent or guardian's ID or passport.

If someone else is applying for you, they need: Their ID or passport (original and copy). A special letter (power of attorney) saying they can apply for you. This letter needs an apostille stamp.

From October 2023, property purchase proof hasn't been needed. Consider emailing a Spanish Agent about a property and printing the conversation. While the consulate usually doesn't ask for this during the appointment they may specify its needed when booking the appointment by email.

Proof you live in the Consular area. As of October 2023, the Consulate hasn't been requesting address proof for their area. However, it's advisable to bring a recent utility bill (dated within the last 3 months) just in case.
